DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BUDDHA AND MAHAVIRA STATUE- CAPT AJIT VADAKAYIL

SRIVATSA MARK OF MAHAVIRA , LEFT HANDED SWASTIKA OF BUDDHA, KAUSTUBHA MANI FROM SAMUDRA MANTHAN – CAPT AJIT VADAKAYIL

Several decades ago, when I was young one of my friends showed me a Japanese memento. So I asked him where he got it from. He said that a few days ago some Jap tourists had come to his house , and given him that.

Naturally I asked him, what tourists object of interest is there in his house. So he replied that he is a Buddhist and his great great great grandfather had brought a very ancient marble statue of Buddha from Sri Lanka , which is installed in his home.

And that lot of Japanese tourists come to pray to it as it is on their tourist brochure.

So I made it a point to to visit his house to have a dekko. And there was this milky marble white statue in all its serenity.

I had a closer look with mE beady eyes.

The small children in his joint family house had sort of been instructed to start praying like hell to Buddha, the moment they see a tourist or a visitor.

For there was a instant LOUD praying session of—

Buddham sharanam gachami, Sangham sharanam gachami, Dharmam Shananam gachami etc etc.

I saw the statue and then told my friend that I needed to see him in private.

I told him that his statue was of MAHAVIRA ( Jainism ) and NOT of BUDDHA ( Buddhism ).

I told him that his theory of the statue coming from Sri Lanka fell flat, because there was NO Jainism in Sri Lanka.

One of the reasons why Jainism never left Indian shores is because of the restriction to travel except on foot (without climbing even on a worm) , and strict vegetarianism the Jain religion placed. And can you imagine today there are 65000 Indian Jains in UK alone.

Obviously he started telling me how liitle I knew about Buddhism.

So I had to cut him short.

I told him, that I will tell him identify a Mahavira stature from a Buddha statue, and then if his family still overdoes the Jap tourist bit to earn moolah , it would amount to deliberate immoral fraud.

So this is what I told him--

A Buddha statue will never ever be naked , like the statue in his house. A Buddha statue will never ever have a naked torso, leave alone being totally naked.

The Buddha statue will always have a hand raised in mudra sign. The Mahavira statue will have both the palms ( right on left ) in classic Vedic Ardha- Padmasana meditative pose of Lord Shiva.

A Mahavira statue will have Vishnu’s Sri Vatsa mark on the bare chest. Buddha’s chest is covered by cloth .

The Buddha statue will have a Hindu Tilak on the forehead. Mahavira’s statue will NOT have it as the 24th thirthankara was an ascetic.

Buddha’s statue will have a tied up hair bun on top of the head.

The earlobes of both Buddha and Mahavira are elongated, as a reminder that both were wealthy men who could afford to wear heavy golden earrings, before they renounced material things to seek enlightenment.

There is so much of ignorance about Buddha that the stupid Western historian thinks that the FAT statue of Ho-Tai the Chinese monk is Buddha.

Ho-Tai was a Chan monk working as a cook in a monastery in Southern China around the 9th century AD, while Buddha was born in 1900 BC.

Ho-Tai is regarded by many Buddhists as a Bodhisatva (not a Buddha), but he was elevated to “good luck” divinity by the Taoists— a sort of Santa Claus for children.

In fact I have seen several US Christian TV evangelists making fun of this statue by saying “ If Buddha cannot control his obesity, how can he take care of you” – and then they would throw it into the garbage bin, with the holy congregation cheering him on . I dare them to do it with an Islamic icon.

The white Christian invader has placed Lord Buddha at 563 BC. Actually Buddha was born much earlier in 1900 BC.

The white Christian invader has called Lord Mahavira as the founder of Jainism. This is absolutely wrong.

Emperor Rishabha ( Adinath ) , the father of Chakravatri Bharata is the founder of Jainism in 8190 BC, and is the first Thirthankara.

Rishabha is mentioned in the Hindu text of the Bhagavata Purana , Vaishnava / Shaiva Puraņas, and several other ancient texts.

The white historian has put Mahavira as a contemporary of Buddha at 599 BC. This is wrong . First of all Mahavira was just a reformer. He was the 24th Thirtankara . Mahavira was born in 4500 BC.

Mahavira fasted to death ( salekhana) at Pavapure (near modern Patna).

The 10th avatar of Vishnu, Kalki will have a Srivatsa mark on his chest.

Srivatsa is a commonly used surname in Hindu names. Lord Parasurama an avatar of Vishnu was born in this Gotra.

The endless knot of Sri Vatsa is found on Vishnu’s right side chest. This symbol represents the interweaving of change with time. Srivatsa is one of the 1008 names of Lord Vishnu in the Vishnu Sahasranam.

The Kaustubh Mani was a powerful deep blue diamond with a radiance equal to the sun. It was obtained during the churning of the sea ( Samudra Manthan ) .

Lord Vishnu wears Kaustubh Mani in a garland on his chest. This tone brings invincibility on to its wearer .

The Srivatsa mark on Lord Vishnu’s right chest is due to this diamond, which caused a design of fine yellow hair in an endless knot geometrical form—as per Sree Bhagawatham (SB 10.13.48)

SAHAR VAKSH STHAL KAUSTUBHASHRIYAM, NAMAMI VISHNUM SIRASA CHATURBHUJAM ||

This hymn talks about the Kaustubha diamond on Vishnu. . Both Srivatsa and Kaustubha are generally listed together in the same line, often in the same word even, in the verses of the Bhagavatam.

Seeing the Lord present before them, King Nābhi and his priests and associates felt just like poor people who have suddenly attained great riches. They received the Lord and respectfully bent their heads and offered Him things in worship.

The comment on Chutney Mary's and Pickle John's is too funny.
We knew one such family who visited our house and the gentleman (a + convert) while we were watching a news channel, passed a sarcastic comment on Ganesha festival saying what's the use of making a big idol and dumping it in water? !@#$*** . Athithi devo bhava.. so my father tolerated that comment and remained silent and when we passed dinner, he gave a fitting reply saying that the food has been prepared with Ganesha's blessings on account of prayers on Ganesh Chaturthi. After that, at least I have not seen them in our house ever since.

This was the same gentleman (ex-Punjabi Paaji before conversion)who once gave us a 'revelation' that the higher you go from sea level, the hotter it becomes [we guessed his idea was that one goes closer to sun] heee..heee..heee.. Boy,, we still have a good laugh on that !

Hello captain, I agree with what you said, it's the same thing with the Malayalee evangelists.. They wear their suit and tie attire to impress their western colleagues, may be trying to get some brownie points from their handlers. I remember during my church going years an American preacher pointed out that I did not have my tie on and he explained that it was noble for a gentleman to wear a tie in the house of god, I replied to him that wearing a tie is not part of my cultural identity, he did not take my reply well as he knows my father being a pastor. If you could please throw light on Tibetan Buddhism, the current plight of Tibetans, the role of China and India...I have read some gross atrocities done on innocent lives in Tibet, especially on monks and nuns. It is outrageous! Aren't India and Tibet sharing a common heritage? China seems to be an ignored threat of this era.

I have been going through the world's headlines from a different perspective, since I have started reading your blogs.

Yesterday's legislation on share in ancestral property to woman on divorce is a death knell on the institution of Hindu Marriage. Marrige will now become a business for some "broad minded, progressive" thinking woman. Marry a wealthy idiot, live with him for a couple of years, put a case using 498A, get a divorce, loot his property and his ancestral property, chill out for a couple of years, marry again and repeat the cycle again.

Wow, what a way to make money. And all of this is LEGAL. And that too, only for Hindus.

This will only drive more Hindus to either not getting married or convert to other "secular" religions. Our law makers won't dare to implement this on the minorities. They know they will have their private parts cut if they dare to touch our secular minorities.

I was also thinking about our Mandal Reservation which was raging on in 80s-90s. It was a clever ploy to drive out all the "educated" Brahmins out of India, into the waiting hands of USA and western world. Now, using our own Indian brain, USA is developing fast in all spheres of life. The so called repressed classes are still repressed. Yes, a few of them have got benefited. No doubts about that. But, the country as a whole has also lost lots of intelligent people. This is one of the main reasons of brain drain in India.

The western world, has very cleverly, under the guise of empowerment of women and suppressed classes, has struck at the very core of our Indian values. And who is benefiting from this...the western world, because of our brain drain and other religions, because of stupid marriage laws.

It is the true story of my handsome colleague, who slit his wrists 3 times , unable to handle the diabolical games of his wife.

After 2 years of marriage , she left him for a film producer who promised to make her a Bollywood actress, and she was indeed beautiful.

My friend had just recovered from depression .

He showed her the three scars on his wrist and asked her " What would you do , if you were in my place".

Men don't go on TV and tell sob stories.

on the contrary i keep the english in my posts VERY VERY simple, for my indian and foreign readers.

20 years back i used to keep my english with my dork bosses ashore, deliberately bombastic-

- so much that they could NOT understand what i wrote despite having the english dictionary--and the book of idioms and phrases, on their desk.

several times they wrote to me telling me to keep my english simple.

so i used to tell them off with a small example.

imagine, somebody has "pilfered" cargo from my ship.

just to make you ignoramuses happy, i am NOT gonna say that the cargo got "robbed" or "plundered" or "stolen" -- or whatever.

What ever said is the problems we face. What is the solution ? Did any hindu thought about that ?.
1. Talk to you kids about being loyal to religion from the age 14.
2. Tell them historical atrocities done by minorities at the age 18.
3. Dont put money in temples and dont do costly pilgrimages. help your poor relative
4. At least tell your friends that all caste people should be made priest in temple
5. Pray God in local language
6. When I worked in Indian airlines, for short time.. My duty is to collect application forms for jobs from Public. Once a Christian DGM tried to put a application after the submission date and I caught him. He put the blame on me saying I missed the form. I refused and escalated to HR Manager. I was proved correct. The point is the job was for traffic assistant and the application was of an Dalit christian. A Christian DGM (Mudaliar Caste) is fighting for an 8th pass out guy to get a job. Will a Hindu DGM do that ? So help hindus to get job.

In mosques they give interest free loan to converts. Do we hindus do it ?

man is on this planet for 7 or 8 decades. he must be happy.

happiness has got nothing to do with money.

without peace of mind there is NO happiness.

and regarding helping poor relatives--

it is NOT right to give free food to a man whose brain and body is healthy. it makes him useless.

Its about Mamta Kulkarni, how she disappeared and is not fully devoted to our vedas (she even wrote a book on it), and how she managed to fool the mullahs but pretending to convert to Islam to free her friend. Sha is an Hindu Indian family name of Gujarat and south Rajasthan.

Shah surname is adopted by the merchant communities ( vaishya ) and by Jains.

The Sanskrit word 'Sahukara' which means trader.

Sha became Shah only under post-8th century Arabic accent.

You cant trust Mamta Kulkarni. I have seen her wedding pictures with fight master Tinnu Verma.

Even in satyararth prakash dayanand has used such words of criticism which are not expected from a sanyasi. That book is full of hate. He declare guru nanak as a fraud because he used word nirbhau in japuji sahib fr nirbhya and declared that he was not educated hence he had no knowledge about religion. Ramakrishna parmhans was also uneducated.. but can anyone deny his sainthood?

At the time when Lord Buddha appeared, the people in general were atheistic and preferred animal flesh to anything else. On the plea of Vedic sacrifice, every place was practically turned into a slaughterhouse, and animal killing was indulged in unrestrictedly. Lord Buddha preached nonviolence, taking pity on the poor animals. He preached that he did not believe in the tenets of the Vedas and stressed the adverse psychological effects incurred by animal killing. Less intelligent men of the age of Kali, who had no faith in God, followed his principle, and for the time being they were trained in moral discipline and nonviolence, the preliminary steps for proceeding further on the path of God realization. He deluded the atheists because such atheists who followed his principles did not believe in God, but they kept their absolute faith in Lord Buddha, who himself was the incarnation of God. Thus the faithless people were made to believe in God in the form of Lord Buddha. That was the mercy of Lord Buddha: he made the faithless faithful to him.

during the funeral of BR Ambedkar R ensured that the whole crowd converted to buddhism enmassse.

Before the elections BSP leader Mayawati, has said that she and her followers will embrace Buddhism after the BSP forms a government at the Centre-- wily lady, she knows it will NEVER EVER happen.

three years ago, i went to console one of my seniors who went into depression -- as his darling daugher eloped with a Tamilian boy .

Read this blog. Superb as always. So, buddhism and Sikhism are offshoots of Hinduism. But Jainism? Hindu texts mention Rishabhdev and so, Jains claim that Jainism is older than Hinduism. I counter that point by mentioning that before Vedas were written, they were transmitted orally before getting written. What can be a concrete answer to this?

But I have found them using certain topics to write their articles. For example most of London swaminathans articles are based on Tamil sangham literature. However your articles are based on references from various sources, which is really great.

I have few questions that I have tried to find answers on, but been,unsuccessful due to non availability of references and resources and also time constraints.. Here I truly believe that you can give me guidence.. I belong to a caste known as pisharody or sharody. I would like to dig up on origins of my cast. The information available in wiki and pisharody samajam sites are not valid ( I think so) .. It would be great if you could let me know if there are any books that I could refer and understand about the origin, characteristics and rituals of pisharodies..as I have always felt that many malayalis were jains before and were converted to Hinduism by Hindu extremists.
