Drowning in plastic

Drowning in plastic Visualising the world’s addiction to plastic bottles By  Simon Scarr and Marco Hernandez PUBLISHED SEP 4, 2019 Around the world, almost 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute. As the environmental impact of that tide of plastic becomes a growing political issue, major packaged goods sellers and retailers are under pressure to cut the flow of the single-use bottles and containers that are clogging the world’s waterways. Plastic production has surged in the last 50 years, leading to widespread use of inexpensive disposable products that are having a devastating effect on the environment. Images of plastic debris-strewn beaches and dead animals with stomachs full of plastic have sparked outrage. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are commonly used for soft drinks and mineral water, but can also be used in other household or personal care products. Data from Euromonitor International, shows that more than 480 billion of these bottles were sold

How is Glass made?

How is Glass made? Believe it or not, Glass is made from liquid sand. You can make glass by heating ordinary sand (which is mostly made of silicon dioxide) until it melts and turns into a liquid. You won't find that happening on your local beach: sand melts at the incredibly high temperature of 1700°C (3090°F). Production of Glass in modern times has not change much since it was discovered in ancient areas of Persia and Egypt - sand (which consists of silica, soda ash and lime) is heated to extreme temperatures, and then is allowed to cool down and be shaped into almost any form by either blowing or pouring in pre-designed molds. This extremely easy process can also be enriched with additives, which can provide glass with every color or opacity imaginable, improve quality, durability and other properties. Even though this process can sound simple, it requires much precision because to create perfect glass container of window you need to carefully maintain temperatures at eve

What causes skin to wrinkle with age?

What causes skin to wrinkle with age? The skin is made up of three layers: The outermost layer which everyone can see, called the Epidermis. The middle layer, called the Dermis. The innermost layer, called the Subcutaneous layer. When we're young, we don't have wrinkles because the Skin does a great job of stretching and holding in moisture. The dermis has an elastic quality thanks to fibers called Elastin that keep the skin looking and feeling young. A protein in the dermis called Collagen also plays a part in preventing wrinkles. But over time, the dermis loses both collagen and elastin, so skin gets thinner and has trouble getting enough moisture to the epidermis. The fat in the subcutaneous layer that gives skin a plump appearance also begins to disappear, the epidermis starts to Sag, and wrinkles form.

How Glider works?

How Glider works? The wings on a glider have to produce enough lift to balance the weight of the glider. The faster the glider goes the more lift the wings make. If the glider flies fast enough the wings will produce enough lift to keep it in the air. But, the wings and the body of the glider also produce drag, and they produce more drag the faster the glider flies. Since there's no engine on a glider to produce thrust, the glider has to generate speed in some other way. Angling the glider downward, trading altitude for speed, allows the glider to fly fast enough to generate the lift needed to support its weight.

What is Dandruff ?

What is Dandruff ? Dandruff,  those dry, white flakes of Skin you brush off your Collar or Shoulders is harmless. But it can be embarrassing and itchy. Dandruff really isn't about your hair, or how often you wash it. Instead, it's about the skin on your scalp.  Skin cells that grow and die off too fast are the problem. A very common Fungus called Malassezia may contribute to dandruff. This fungus lives on the scalp of most healthy adults without causing any problems. One theory is that the immune system of someone with dandruff may overreact to that fungus.  Dandruff may get worse when you're stressed or sick. Cold, dry winters can trigger dandruff or make it worse, too. One common cause is Seborrheic dermatitis, or Seborrhea. Some people with dandruff may also have seborrheic dermatitis in other areas of the body, such as their ears, the center of the face, and the center of the chest.
